International Leaders visit Elite Disability Centres

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office International Leaders Programme visited Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s Elite Disability Centre for deaf and partially sighted players, to see first-hand the positive opportunities this project is delivering for young people in the local community.

Delegates, including Mr Diego Coatz, Chief Economist at the Industrial Union of Argentina (UIA), and Ms Julie Chappell, Head of Emerging Powers Department and the youngest ever British Ambassador, were given the opportunity to meet the Foundation’s Deaf and Partially Sighted U16s team, fresh from their glory at the National Futsal Championships in March.  

The players, who beat five teams from across the country in the Championships, demonstrated their skills and expertise as the delegates watched on. Taking part in possession and shooting drills before embarking on small sided games, the teams showcased the level of professionalism and commitment that cemented their victory on March 22. 

Operating in partnership with the London County Football Association, Middlesex County Football Association and the National Football Association, the Elite Disability Centres are designed to develop disability footballers for progression onto national emerging talent camps, England Development Squads and the full senior squads, including Team GB.

The delegates were in London to learn about sports, enterprise and entrepreneurial activity in the capital. In addition to visiting the Elite Disability Centres, delegates were given an overview of the Foundation’s most popular employment and apprenticeship programmes as part of the Stadium regeneration scheme, before ending the day with a tour of White Hart Lane.
