Sun 30 October 2016, 07:44|Tottenham Hotspur

In addition to its two Foundation Degree programmes, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation is offering a new course giving young people the opportunity to pursue a career in the hospitality, events and sports management sectors.

The course, which starts in January, 2017, will be delivered in partnership with Hertford Regional College and will see students studying over a two-year period to gain a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Stadium and Event Management. Sessions will be delivered at the College’s campus in Ware, Hertfordshire, and White Hart Lane.

Work placements will form an integral part of the course and allow students to gain high-quality, industry-relevant work experience with the Club’s official catering partner, Levy Restaurants, and the Foundation’s Matchday Volunteering Kiosk at the Lane. Other keys aspects to be taught will include crowd and risk management, customer service and brand management.

On completion of the course, students may choose to top-up to a full honours degree at university or go straight into employment. The UK Events Industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in terms of employment opportunities.

Maighread Hegarty, Higher Education Development Manager at Hertford Regional College, said: “This builds on the College’s excellent relationship with Tottenham Hotspur and offers a unique and exciting opportunity for progression from the Hospitality and Event Management courses already offered at the College.”

Grant Cornwell, CEO of Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, added: “We are pleased to offer this new course in partnership with Hertford Regional College that will not only enable students to access excellent teaching but also gain high-quality work experience at the Club. This forms part of our ongoing commitment to provide the best sports, education and employment opportunities for our communities.

“Since 2010, the Foundation’s Higher Education courses have proved popular, with over 400 students enrolling to take advantage of high-quality teaching provision, subsidised course fees and a unique learning environment within a Premier League football club. Hertford Regional College also has extensive experience in Higher Education provision, offering a range of HND and Foundation Degree qualifications.”

Those interested can apply now for a place on the 2016-17 course, starting on January 9, 2017, by contacting Hertford Regional College directly. Students studying on the HND may apply for financial support for fees and maintenance via the Student Loans Company.

Applications for the 2017-18 academic year should be made via UCAS.
