Fine start for Fazio

Federico Fazio was satisfied after marking his Spurs debut with a clean sheet against Partizan Belgrade.

The Argentinian snapped up from Sevilla formed a no-nonsense central defensive partnership with Jan Vertonghen as the pair dealt with everything thrown their way at the Partizan Stadium.

Chances were at a premium in the Europa League, Group C opener with Harry Kane closest to breaking the deadlock as early as the second minute, his effort cannoning back off the crossbar.

Federico won the competition twice with Sevilla - including last season - and was determined to start this season’s campaign on the front foot.

But he was also realistic with how the game materialised to take the clean sheet and the point. “We played okay but it was difficult to play our first-time football,” he reflected.

“It was a tough game and important not to lose.

“I’m very happy to have played my first match for Tottenham and I would like to play many more.

“I’m pleased with the clean sheet and not to lose this match and now we’re all thinking about the next match against West Brom on Sunday.

“I hope to play my first game at White Hart Lane. I’m here to do my best for the team.”
