Federico eyeing Asteras shutout

Federico Fazio has targeted a clean sheet as we bid to register back-to-back victories against Asteras Tripolis in the Europa League this week.

The Argentine centre-half played 90 minutes as we beat the Greek side 5-1 at White Hart Lane a fortnight ago, with Jerónimo Barrales’ late free-kick beating stand-in goalkeeper Harry Kane after we surged into a five-goal lead through Erik Lamela’s brace and a Kane treble.

Ahead of the return meeting on matchday four in Group C, Federico wants us to ensure we go one better this time and prevent Asteras from scoring.

“It’s the most important thing as a defender to ensure our opponents’ players cannot score goals,” said the 27-year-old. “We are working towards this against Asteras Tripolis on Thursday.

“I think the match will be very different to the first game at home. We can take confidence from the first match, but we know this week’s game will be very difficult, very close and it’s important to take three points.

“Maybe the result of the last match was slightly harsh on Asteras because they played well and they have a good team, but we are always looking for the next win and we hope to take the points away again this week.”
