The family of legendary former midfielder Dave Mackay paid a special visit to White Hart Lane on Wednesday, where they were met by Dave’s former team-mates Alan Gilzean, Pat Jennings and Cliff Jones.
The heartbeat of Bill Nicholson’s double-winning team in 1960-61, Dave joined us from Hearts in 1959 and went on to play 318 times for us between 1959-68. Bill described him as his best-ever signing.
As well as the famous double in 1961, Dave helped us retain the FA Cup in 1962 and was key in our run to the 1963 European Cup Winners Cup Final, which he missed through injury.
He returned from breaking his leg on two occasions to captain the team to the FA Cup again in 1967. He eventually joined Derby County in 1968.
Dave sadly passed away in March, 2015, but his contribution to Spurs will never be forgotten.
Dave’s wife Isobel and children Derek and Valerie were joined by extended family while Pat and Cliff were accompanied by wives Eleanor and Joan for the poignant visit.
Pat said: “It was fantastic to see Isobel and Dave’s family back at White Hart Lane, I’m sure it brought back some happy memories.”
