Eriksen's delight

Wed 01 January 2014, 23:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Christian Eriksen was all smiles after playing a huge part in our perfect start to 2014 – a 2-1 win at Manchester United.

The Danish playmaker provided the cross for Emmanuel Adebayor to open the scoring in the first half and then converted the second himself with a flying header from Aaron Lennon’s cross.

Danny Welbeck reduced arrears immediately after Christian’s goal and we were then forced on the back foot by the home team, but dug in deep defensively to hold on to maximum points.

“I couldn’t have wished for a better start to the New Year than a goal and assist in a win at Old Trafford,” said Christian, who also scored a fantastic free-kick against West Brom on Boxing Day.

“We didn’t play that well in the first half so there was a mixture of good and bad feelings at half-time. We had to keep going because we knew anything could happen at Old Trafford.

“We got to 2-0, they came back and we held on. We needed three points and it’s great for the confidence to stay on this run.

“I’m really happy with the win and if you score, it’s an even better feeling!

“Hopefully it will be a really good year for us.”
