Erik keeping his feet on the ground

Erik Lamela refuses to get carried away after his fine start to the season continued on the international stage.

The winger returned to the Training Centre on Monday after playing a key role in Argentina’s 4-2 friendly win against Germany last week.

Erik dispatched a sublime volley to make it 2-0 on the night as Argentina shocked the World champions by racing into a 4-0 lead in Dusseldorf.

Back to full fitness after an injury-hit first campaign at Spurs, Erik has impressed in our opening five fixtures in all competitions, not least with double assists in the wins against QPR and AEL.

“I’m happy because it was my first goal for Argentina and even happier because we won the game,” said Erik.

“It’s one goal, it was special, but it’s just one goal and I will keep my feet on the ground.

“To win 4-2 against Germany, the World champions, is a special result. It was great to be part of it.”

Erik was with the first batch of our players to return from international duty this week - alongside our Belgian trio of Nacer Chadli, Mousa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen - and is now fully focused our return to Premier League action at Sunderland on Saturday (3pm).

“We will need to show good personality and character at Sunderland and I hope we win this game,” he added.
