England Netball Disability Awareness Workshop

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, in partnership with Middlesex Netball and Enfield Sports Development Unit, organised a Netball Disability Awareness Workshop on Sunday 29th March at Southbury Leisure Centre in Enfield.

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, in partnership with Middlesex Netball and Enfield Sports Development Unit, organised a Netball Disability Awareness Workshop on Sunday 29th March at Southbury Leisure Centre in Enfield.

The aim of the workshop was to give coaches and volunteers involved in club netball the confidence and understanding to be able to make their clubs more inclusive for individuals with disabilities.

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation's Together Now Project Co-ordinators led the all day workshop, which was attended by 17 coaches from across Middlesex, Essex Met and Surrey.

In the morning, the coaches and volunteers gained knowledge and understanding of disabilities and how to make netball activities more inclusive.

In the afternoon, all coaches put what they learnt into practice when 23 children ranging from 12 to 18 years old with varying disabilities turned up to play netball.

All the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and enjoyed being taught how to play netball by the coaches. Aimee Marshall, a coach from New Campbell Netball Club, said: "The day was really enjoyable and a great experience mixed with both theory and practical."

Rhiannon Hodkinson, Middlesex Netball Development Co-ordinator and one of the organisers of the event, added: "The Netball Disability Awareness workshop was very successful with all coaches expressing an interest in completing further netball disability coaching. Following this workshop, I hope to develop more activities and give clubs the support to increase the number of individuals with disabilities involved in netball."
