Emotional Lane Finale my highlight of 2017 - Mauricio

Sun 31 December 2017, 10:15|Tottenham Hotspur

Where do you start to pick a Spurs highlight of 2017?

Club records tumbling as we finished runners-up in the Premier League? Wins against Chelsea, Arsenal and United as we completed the final season at White Hart Lane unbeaten? Successive record away wins against Leicester (6-1) and Hull (7-1) in the space of four days? Champions League wins against Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid? Harry Kane's goalscoring exploits?

Really though, there is only one ‘winner’. It has to be the Lane Finale, the final match after 118 years at our famous old stadium, the win against United and emotional celebrations that followed, all concluding with a rainbow appearing over the East Stand.

That May afternoon, as he walked out for one final time, all four sides of stadium sang out his song ‘he’s magic, you know, Mauricio Pochettino...’ and as they did so, the camera panned in close to Mauricio, clearly moved by the occasion.

“There are so many good memories but I think the last game at White Hart Lane is my favourite moment of 2017,” said Mauricio.

“To finish unbeaten (at home) in a season and to say goodbye to White Hart Lane was such an emotional day. That was my favourite day. It was special for so many reasons as we ended our journey with White Hart Lane.

“The Champions League, finishing second, our football and the way the team played, the things we achieved as a Club and as individuals, it was a fantastic year.”

Look out tomorrow for Mauricio’s thoughts on our next match at Swansea on Tuesday...
