Brad Friedel insists we’ll take a positive mentality into tonight’s Europa League Round of 32 first leg at Dnipro.
We’ve won eight on the trot so far in this season’s campaign – equalling our longest winning streak in the competition – and goalkeeper Brad says that’s the attitude we will take again as we face the team currently fourth in the Ukraine Premier League.
“We look to win games and we’ll do the same against Dnipro,” said Brad after training on Wednesday night.
“We approach every game that way, whether it’s in a cup competition or the Premier League. The mentality of this club is not to go out and try to draw matches.
“This will be a difficult game and we know Dnipro are a good side. We want to position ourselves so we can finish the job at White Hart Lane.”
Dnipro have lost just twice in their domestic league so far this season and their place at the top of the Ukraine football table is recognised on the international stage with five players in national team – Viyaliy Mandzyuk, Yehven Konoplanka, Ruslan Rotan, Roman Zozulya and Yehven Seleznyov were all in the Ukraine squad that took on France in the World Cup play-offs, where they lost 3-2 on aggregate having won the first leg 2-0 with Zozulya on target.
“Dnipro have some very good players and this is part of the world where a lot of the big clubs come looking for players,” said Brad. “And there is reason for that.
“The national team is also very strong so this is one of those fixtures that we will not take lightly at all.”
