Eric Dier labelled his Spurs debut as “a great experience” after his impressive showing against Schalke.
The 20-year-old joined us last week from Sporting Lisbon and was introduced to the crowd along with fellow new signings Ben Davies and Michel Vorm and Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino at a packed White Hart Lane before kick-off on Saturday.
He went on to put on an assured display alongside Younes Kaboul at the heart of our defence as we saw off our German visitors 2-1 thanks to goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado in our final pre-season friendly of the summer ahead of next weekend’s Premier League opener at West Ham.
“I was really happy to get out there on the pitch,” said Eric, who was one of three players to complete 90 minutes as we made a host of changes in the second half.
“It’s obviously my first time playing at the stadium and it was a fantastic experience. We made lots of changes and it can be hard to keep the same momentum in that situation, but we played well and I was really happy with my first game.
“I hope to keep improving but I’m happy with the start. It’s great to be here.”
