Paulinho’s World Cup campaign came to an end on Saturday evening as Brazil suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Netherlands in the third place play-off.
Our central midfielder, making his sixth appearance of the tournament finals, started the match for the host nation – eventually being withdrawn on 57 minutes as Brazil sought to peg back a two-goal disadvantage.
The Netherlands were in front inside three minutes through Robin van Persie’s penalty, before Daley Blind made it 2-0 with 16 minutes on the watch.
Georginio Wijnaldum completed the scoring in stoppage time.
Paulinho is the last of our seven players involved at the World Cup to exit the tournament – with all eyes now on Sunday evening’s final between Germany and Argentina.
