Davies: 'You have to be patient to get your chance'

Ben Davies knows better than most about the virtue of patience in football.
The Welsh international full-back has seen Danny Rose simply get better and better since arriving at Spurs from Swansea ahead of the 2014-15 season. Danny is now England’s first-choice left-back and it’s the same story for Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker. Danny and Kyle are seen by many ex-professionals and pundits as the best full-back pairing in the Premier League.
However, as Mauricio Pochettino regularly points out, football is a squad game and Ben and ‘Trips’ form a formidable full-back unit.
And they both deliver. Kieran came in for Kyle at Watford and set up our first two goals in a 4-1 win.
Ben was then crucial in Sunday’s FA Cup victory against Villa, breaking his goalscoring duck for us and heading home a crucial opening goal on 71 minutes as we went on to win 2-0.
“We all push ourselves and you have to be patient to get your chance when someone is playing well and that’s what myself and Trips have had to do,” said Ben.
“We both work hard every day on the training pitch and that is showing in the performances we’ve put out there.
“I thought Trips was excellent (against Villa) and it was nice to pop up with a goal myself.
“We’ve got to keep working hard, the four of us to push each other and improve as much as we can and at the end of the day, that can only be good for the football club.”
