Danny ready for Sunderland challenge

Danny Rose knows both teams will be seeking a return to winning ways in the Premier League when we host Sunderland on Saturday, but he’s confident we can take maximum points at the expense of his former loan club.

We take on Gus Poyet’s men a week after suffering a 2-1 reverse at Crystal Palace, with our visitors coming into the match off the back of a 1-0 home loss to Liverpool.

Danny, who scored in our midweek victory over Burnley in the FA Cup, says Sunderland are sure to make life difficult for us as they seek to avoid a repeat of the 5-1 scoreline on their last visit to White Hart Lane at the end of the 2013-14 season.

But ahead of the 3pm kick-off, he has reiterated our desire to taste victory once again in the Premier League.

“It will be a difficult one, but it’s a game we’re all looking forward to and hopefully we’ll get three points on the board, as we should have done last week at Crystal Palace,” said the 24-year-old.

“Sunderland have been a bit hit-and-miss this season with their results, they’ve had a lot of draws and they’re coming here off the back of a home defeat to Liverpool.

“Consequently they’ll be wanting to try to put that right and obviously they won’t want to finish the game with the same score as last season when they played at White Hart Lane.”

Each time we face Sunderland, Danny is reminded of his loan spell at the Stadium of Light in 2012-13. It was a campaign that put him in a great position to take his place in our side on a regular basis upon his return and, naturally, he’s looking forward to seeing some of his old friends at the conclusion of our latest contest.

“Sunderland were the first football club to give me the chance to play week in, week out at this level,” he said. “The club treated me as if I was one of their own and even now I can go up there and they treat me and my family exactly the same so I have a lot of love for the people there. I wish them all the best – after this weekend, of course!”
