Christian Eriksen reflected on our thrilling win against Southampton and admitted the final chance fell to the right person.
Gylfi Sigurdsson delivered the knockout blow with a fine strike from 25 yards to complete our turn around from 2-0 down to a memorable 3-2 victory in the Premier League.
Christian got us back on level terms with two goals and then laid the ball square to Gylfi in the second minute of added time...
“Everyone knows how well Gylfi can shoot so if anyone was going to have that chance, it should be him,” said Christian. “Luckily, he was in the right space and it was a great strike, a great finish. We see that every day in training.”
After going behind to goals from Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana, Christian felt the momentum changed when he struck for 2-1 on 31 minutes.
We were the dominant team from that point, Christian levelled 40 seconds into the second half and after knocking on the door, Gylfi found the late winner.
“In the first half we tried to take our chances but they scored from our mistakes,” he added.
“The first goal gave us hope, from two mistakes and being 2-0 down, that got us back in the game. We were a changed team in the second half and everyone believed we could do it after 2-2. Everyone knew it was possible then.
“We had to bounce back and showed real quality. It’s a great feeling to win, a big boost for everyone. We’re really happy with the win.”
