Club announce Damien Comolli as Sporting Director

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club on Wednesday announced that Damien Comolli has been appointed Sporting Director with effect from 12 September 2005. Comolli, 33, was previously Technical Director at St Etienne, where the club enjoyed a successful return to Les Championnat, finishing 6th. Prior to that he spent seven seasons with Arsenal as European Scout. As Sporting Director at Tottenham Hotspur, Comolli will take responsibility for the Medical, Academy, Scouting and Club Secretarial departments.
Commenting on his appointment, Daniel Levy, Chairman, said, “Damien has a long and impressive track record of scouting and signing many talented and successful youth and senior players. I believe he will be a huge asset to the Club with his forward thinking approach to international networking and partnerships. His achievements at St Etienne show that he is also ideally suited to bring best practice to our training facilities, academy and medical divisions.”
Martin Jol, Head Coach, added, “Damien has excellent scouting networks, not only in Europe, but around the world. There are so many aspects at a football club which support the playing side and it is important to have someone to focus on these at the Club. He is highly rated in his field and I am delighted that he has chosen to come to us. I am looking forward to working with him and have told him that it is a great time to be joining this Club.”
Speaking as the new Sporting Director, Damien Comolli said, “I am delighted to be joining Tottenham Hotspur. The Club has an ambitious board and a first class coaching team headed by Martin, with whom I shall be collaborating closely. The challenge for me is to assist the Club to play football at the highest level and to continuously seek to improve everything we do. I feel there is much that can be achieved and I am excited to be here.”
