City 2-2 Spurs - Mauricio's reaction

Sat 21 January 2017, 22:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino pulled out one big positive after the 2-2 draw at City - the belief of the team.

That belief enabled the players to dig deep into their reserves, 2-0 down approaching the hour after City’s quick one-two just after the break, then two centre-backs down as Toby Alderweireld limped off just after we’d pulled a goal back. Kevin Wimmer had been substituted in a tactical switch at half-time.

Dele Alli made it 11 goals for the season in the Premier League with that first, crucial goal back - a fine header from Kyle Walker's superb delivery - before Heung-Min Son finished off a slick move for 2-2 on 77 minutes.

Both teams went for the win - City tested deputy centre-back Victor Wanyama to the limit as it ended a point apiece.

“To be honest, I think they were better,” admitted Mauricio. “In the first half they played much better than us and we didn’t play in the way we normally play, but sometimes it’s difficult to keep the momentum and play the way we normally play.

“It was a big challenge for us. We conceded two goals and the important thing, the positive is the massive impact of taking one point.

“The belief and character we showed was fantastic and it’s for that (reason) I’m pleased, not the performance because we didn’t play in the way we wanted to play, but it’s important sometimes when you cannot play your best to believe and this was a fantastic opportunity to show that.”
