Chelsea vs Spurs (FAYC) - Kieran's preview

Wed 18 March 2015, 10:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Kieran McKenna has spoken about the hunger of our Academy players to make it to the biggest stage in youth football – the FA Youth Cup Final.

Our Under-18 squad travel to Stamford Bridge this evening (Wednesday, March 18, 7pm) for the semi-final, second leg against Chelsea.

We take a 2-0 lead to West London after goals from Josh Onomah and Kazaiah Sterling at the Lane.

“It’s a fantastic game to look forward to,” said coach Kieran, who represented us in the FAYC during his days as an Academy player at the club.

“There is a real feel-good factor around the place when you are still in the FA Youth Cup and to get this far has been a good achievement.

“However, the boys are hungry to get to the final, to put themselves on that big stage and get the chance to play in front of our fans again at White Hart Lane.

“These are big incentives, they know the importance of it and we don’t need to stress that to them. It’s a game they are all excited to play in.”

Kieran said the team will be positive at Stamford Bridge. “It’s a different scenario for our players to play in a two-legged tie and to have a 2-0 lead from the first leg but we’ll be looking to go there to impose ourselves because the first goal on the night is really important,” he added.

“We’ll go there positive, look to impose ourselves, look to get a lead and hopefully win the tie on the night.”
