Jermaine Jenas rated our first half display at Werder Bremen as good as anything in his five years at the club.
And JJ, who joined us in 2005, played a key role as we raced into a 2-0 lead in our debut in the group stages of the Champions League.
JJ, excellent in midfield, helped set-up the second goal with an exquiste volleyed pass wide to Rafael van der Vaart, who crossed for Peter Crouch to head home.
Further chances came and went before the game changed in the 43rd minute when Hugo Almeida managed to get a goal back for the home side.
Werder Bremen were a different team from there, equalised within three minutes of the restart and that's how it stayed at the Weserstadion.
"To go to a tough place like Werder Bremen in the Champions League, keep them quiet and put in a performance like we did, it was probably the best 43 minutes I've seen at Tottenham since I've been here," said JJ.
"Having said that, there is a slight disappointment in there.
"We played so well in the first half and the goal they scored at the end of the first half spurred them on.
"They were raring to go when they came out for the second half and unfortunately equalised in the first few minutes.
"But we showed some experience, got it back together and created a few more chances ourselves at the end."
JJ said the lads couldn't wait to get onto the Champions League stage.
"We worked so hard last season to get to this stage," he said. "We were all excited, it was a great night, a great event and everyone was confident and raring to go.
"There is a nagging thought inside me of what if we'd have just held on for those final few minutes of the first half, but overall, we're happy."
