Ben's Euro target

Wed 08 October 2014, 11:05|Tottenham Hotspur

Ben Davies hopes to call on his prior Europa League experience to help us secure qualification for the knockout stages of this season’s competition.

Our return to Premier League action at Manchester City after the international break is swiftly followed by another European home match, as we welcome early Group C pace-setters Asteras Tripolis to White Hart Lane on Thursday, October 23.

We’ve amassed two points in our pool so far, having drawn with both Partizan Belgrade and Besiktas in the opening weeks of the campaign.

Ben, who made seven appearances for Swansea City in the competition last term before joining us in July, reckons wins against Greek side Asteras – both at the Lane and at their Theodoros Kolokotronis Stadium on November 6 – will be a big boost as we seek to secure qualification for the latter stages.

“We’re definitely in a tough group so it’s nice to have the experience I’ve got from playing in this competition last year to call upon,” said the 21-year-old, who was named Young Welsh Footballer of the Year at this week’s Football Association of Wales awards.

“We know that we need two good results in the next two games and I’m confident we can do that.

“If we do then we should get out of the group stage quite comfortably.”

It’s been a summer of transition for Ben following his switch from the Swans, but he says he’s acclimatising well to life in north London and is ready to focus all his energy into our on-pitch performances.

“Being at Spurs is a big change from being at Swansea with a new gaffer and a new system,” he said. “But I’m enjoying life and I’m settling in my apartment now.

“I’m happy here, so now it’s time to fully concentrate on football.”
