Ben's delight

Ben Davies was delighted to pull on the shirt for the first time in a competitive fixture as we toppled AEL Limassol 2-1 in the Europa League play-off, first leg on Thursday.

Our summer recruit from Swansea completed the 90 minutes on his debut as we eventually got the better of the Cyprus team in Larnaca.

Adrian Sardinero opened the scoring for AEL on 14 minutes and it was an hour before Roberto Soldado volleyed home the equaliser from Erik Lamela’s pass.

Erik then provided the assist for the winner five minutes later as Harry Kane lashed into the top corner.

“It’s great to get that first one out of the way and hopefully I’ll get many more this season,” said Ben.

“It’s a great feeling to play my first competitive game. I was more excited than nervous and as soon as the first whistle went, you forget about that and get on with it.”

Ben conceded it was a tough baptism in our first Europa League outing of the season.

“It was tough, we took some time to adapt to the heat and humidity, it was a bit scrappy but we got there in the end and got the job done.

“The goal was a bit of a slip and I thought we kept them at bay from there. It was great to turn it around and to watch the goals hit the back of the net.”
