Ben Davies has reported back to the Training Centre in buoyant mood after playing his part in a fine result for Wales at the weekend.
The left-back completed the full 90 minutes as his nation brought Israel’s 100 per cent record in Euro 2016 qualifying to a shuddering halt, inflicting a 3-0 defeat on the hosts in Haifa on Saturday.
It means Chris Coleman’s side sit top of the Group B standings – at least until Israel host Belgium this evening (Tuesday), where a win for either side will see them leap into pole position.
Nevertheless, Saturday’s match came as an ideal boost for Ben as he returns to Club duty with eight big Premier League matches on the horizon between now and the end of the season – starting with Burnley away on Sunday.
“It was nice to get the full match under my belt,” he reflected. “It’s always an honour to pull on the shirt for my country and it was a massive result for us in Israel.
“It was probably the biggest game we’ve had in a long time with the opportunities that we knew would come in if we picked up three points.
“We went away from home to what is a tough place to go and played against a team who were previously unbeaten in the group, so to pick up all three points was a massive result for us.”
