Benji relishing European stage

Thu 18 September 2014, 11:55|Tottenham Hotspur

Benji Stambouli would love to get his chance back on the European stage tonight.

The squad is in Serbia for our Europa League, Group C opener against high-flying Partizan Belgrade.

Benji had a taste of the Champions League during his time at Montpellier.

Champions of France in 2012, Montpellier drew Arsenal, Olympiacos and Schalke in their Champions League group in 2012-13 and were knocked out at the group stage.

“I have small experience with Montpellier in the Champions League,” said Benji, who played in four of Montpellier’s six matches. “I know that it will be a difficult game against Partizan but we have our qualities and we all hope for a victory.

“It’s a chance to show what I can do and there are many games, so we need everyone.

“We have targets and we are together to reach these targets. When you think collectively, you are strong.”

Partizan top the Serbian SuperLiga with five wins out of five so far this season. “They are very strong, we know that,” added Benji, who made his Spurs and Premier League debut off the bench at Sunderland on Saturday.

“European competitions are always very hard, but we are confident.”
