Benfica vs Spurs - betting preview with Betfred
Thu 20 March 2014, 10:55|Tottenham Hotspur
Benfica take a 3-1 advantage into tonight’s second leg in Lisbon where they have a formidable home record.
Since 2009/10 they have won 14 and lost only one of their 16 home games in the UEFA Europa League, while 13 of the matches have had at least three goals.
Spurs have generally been good on the road this season though, so they have a chance, but history tells us it will be difficult.
Since 2004/05 there have been 18 Europa League Last 16 second legs where the away side had lost the first leg at home and while three teams have won the return game none did so by more than one goal.
However, Spurs are actually one of those three teams having won at PSV in 2008. Tonight is set to be an open game from the outset. 12 of those 18 matches saw at least one first-half goal and half had the first goal in the opening 25 minutes.
Spurs will no doubt want to score early to get back into the tie and can be backed at 4/1 to be winning at half time. Over 2.5 Goals in the match is also well priced at 8/11.
