Ben Davies is hoping Heung-Min Son wins the ‘battle of best friends’ when Stoke City come to Wembley Stadium, connected by EE, this weekend.
The Potters arrive with two popular former Spurs stars in Peter Crouch and Kevin Wimmer in their squad, the latter having left us to join Mark Hughes’ side in search of more regular game time at the beginning of this season.
Central defender Kevin was renowned for being close pals with Heung-Min Son at Spurs, with both players finding common ground having arrived here in the summer of 2015 from the Bundesliga.
The pair still stay in touch and, with a potential head-to-head battle between them on the cards on Saturday afternoon, left-back Ben has had his say on how he expects the contest to pan out.
“I’m sure it’s something that they’ve both been looking forward to,” said the Welsh international, another close friend of both Sonny and Kevin.
“They always wanted to be on the same team when they were training here – they never liked to be apart, but I’m sure Sonny will be looking to give Kev a hard time on Saturday!”
Our South Korean forward has been back among the goals of late, with his equaliser at Watford last Saturday and stunner against APOEL in midweek following on from match-winning strikes against Crystal Palace and Borussia Dortmund in November.
Summing up the former Bayer Leverkusen star’s abilities, Ben added: “He’s never really out of form and you know what you get with Sonny – you get a lot of quality going forward and somebody who is very direct.
“When his confidence is there, he’s a top, top player and he’d be a nightmare to play against so I’m thankful he’s on my team!”
Kick-off is at 3pm on Saturday and tickets are on general sale.
