Adam Smith reflected on his wonder goal for MK Dons and admitted: "I don't know why I hit it!"

The young full-back - on loan at MK for the season - hit a 35-yarder into the top corner in MK's 3-1 win against Rochdale in League One on Saturday.

The goal levelled it up after Rochdale took an early lead and inspired his side to bag another three points as they bid for promotion.

"I don't even know why I hit it," he smiled. "The ball was under my feet, I got it out of my feet, short backlift and shot.

"It was just instinct, I suppose.

"I actually thought it was going over the crossbar but it dipped in at the last minute."

Adam sprinted straight to the bench after scoring where he was greeted by MK's delighted manager Karl Robinson and a familiar face to all at Spurs, Robinson's assistant John Gorman, our former player and assistant manager.

"At at the start of the season the manager said 'I bet you don't score all season' and I took him up on that!" explained Adam, 20.

"It's something I've been working on. In fact, that week, I was working with John Gorman on my shooting. That's another reason I went straight over to the bench.

"To be honest, it's always good for a defender to get on the scoresheet. I think I should score more, really, maybe three or four a season."

Adam is now with the England Under-21 squad for European Championship qualifying matches against Iceland on Thursday and Belgium next Monday.
