Andros Townsend has described his maiden Spurs performance in Sunday’s FA Cup win over Charlton as a ‘dream debut’.

Andros Townsend has described his maiden Spurs performance in Sunday’s FA Cup win over Charlton as a ‘dream debut’.

The 19-year-old winger put in a confident display against the League One side and scored a fine opening goal in our 3-0 victory.

Chingford-born Andros was delighted to finally make his bow as a senior Spurs player having progressed through our Academy ranks.

And he feels his performance showed the benefits of the loan spells he has enjoyed in the Football League at Yeovil, Leyton Orient, MK Dons and Ipswich over the last two years.

Andros said: “It was a dream debut and I was just delighted to get the chance to show everyone what I can do – and hopefully I did that.

“I saw there were a few shocks [in the Cup] on Saturday so thought the manager might go for experience but thankfully he gave me the chance and hopefully I didn’t let him down.

“All the other players gave me a lot of confidence going into the game and I was focused. I just stepped on the grass and did what I knew I could do.

“I know what teams like Charlton are about having been playing around that level over the last season and a half, so I just used that experience to my advantage.”

After a tight first half, Andros was given the chance make it a debut he will never forget just five minutes into the second period.

He describes: “There was nothing else on so I thought ‘I’m going to have a shot here with my right foot’ and luckily it went in the bottom corner, so I was delighted.

“My family were sat in the corner where I scored but it’s all a blur really! I remember much of it!”

On the game itself, Andros added: “Charlton defended very well in the first half but as soon as we got that first goal the game opened up and we started to enjoy it.

“Everyone was just enjoying playing, passing it around, taking players on and having shots at goal. It was just a pleasure to be playing in a game like that alongside players like Modric and Defoe.”
