Andros hails 'never-say-die' attitude

Andros Townsend admitted he feared for our future in the Europa League when Dnipro bagged their away goal on Thursday night – but deep down he knew we could turn it around.

Roman Zozulya’s 47th minute header put the Ukrainian side in a commanding position, two up on aggregate, and left us needing three goals to avoid crashing out of the competition at the round of 32 stage.

But winger Andros admitted the lads always believed the goals would come – as they eventually did – and his only regret was that we couldn’t find the net earlier in the game.

“If I’m honest I thought it was a massive uphill task after conceding just after the break, and to need three goals in 35-odd minutes was difficult,” the 22-year-old said.

“But we showed a never-say-die attitude, we dug in, got the goals that we deserved and got through, which was the main thing.

“We were looking to start fast and we were playing well, but unfortunately we just couldn’t get the breakthrough.

“Then in the first few minutes of the second half, to go 1-0 down was a massive blow to us. But it was great character on show from the lads to get the three goals we needed and it’s a fantastic result.

“Hopefully we can take that performance into Sunday’s match against Cardiff now.”
