AEL Limassol vs Spurs - travel advice for Larnaca - updated

Thu 21 August 2014, 10:10|Tottenham Hotspur

Advice for supporters making the trip to Larnaca, Cyprus for our Europa League play-off, first leg against AEL Limassol on Thursday - please note, turnstiles will now open at 5.30pm local time.

Cyprus is a warm and welcoming destination and English is widely spoken.

Spurs fans travelling to the game will find a busy holiday season already taking place on the Island. As expected, there will be numerous restaurants and cafes available offering a wide variety of food and beverages. There are historic tourist sites to explore as well as the beaches and shopping areas of Larnaca.

Fans arriving at the airport will find excellent links into Larnaca.

The game will take place at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium, home to Anorthosis FC, which is a short journey from the centre of Larnaca.

Fans should make their way to Gate 8, which is on the South West side of the stadium, where Blocks E and Z are situated.  THFC Stewards will be there to assist you on arrival and to check tickets and bags. The usual prohibited items will apply and we would ask that you please abide by the local regulations at the stadium. For any advice, please speak to a member of the THFC Stewarding team.

We have been advised that turnstiles will now open at 5.30pm local time - 90 minutes before kick-off, not two hours as we previously informed. Fans should make their way to Gate 8, where our Supporters' Liason Officer will be on hand to issue tickets ready for collection. Please provide some form of identification at this time.

AEL have also advised supporters to arrive at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium in plenty of time to allow prompt entry before the 7pm kick-off. The turnstiles serving Gate 8 are limited and our supporters may experience some queuing to enter the stadium.

Flags and banners are welcome, but will be checked prior to entry.  It is common policy and normal ground rules at football stadiums in the UK and elsewhere in Europe that flags of an overtly religious/sectarian/political nature will not be permitted and may be confiscated – please respect this request.

The away area of the stadium has suitable catering and welfare facilities and excellent sight lines.

A decision will be taken on the night as to whether or not away fans will be held back, please listen for announcements which may affect you.

The Club is rightly proud of good behaviour during previous European travels and we would ask that you uphold this by respecting local amenities and cultures. Please do not place flags and banners on any buildings, as this may cause offence.

General advice:

Do remember to have the correct Travel Insurance prior to travelling.

Currency is the Euro.

Larnaca is a popular destination for UK holidaymakers and as expected, the weather will be very hot during the time that you are visiting. Do take care in the heat.

Crimes against tourists are uncommon, but do take care of personal possessions in crowded areas.

For those fans staying in Larnaca after the match, please only take with you items required for the evening and leave all other personal goods in a secured place at your hotel.

If you experience any problems whilst in Larnaca, please call the Travel Line - 07917 880445. This number will be available throughout the day/evening of the match.

Finally, remember that you are an ambassador for the Club and we would respectfully request that you behave accordingly throughout the entirety of your visit.
