FINAL FIT FOR A KING

Juande Ramos said Ledley King thoroughly deserved his chance to walk up Wembley's famous steps and lift the Carling Cup.

The skipper returned to lead the side by example at the back and formed a superb central partnership with Jonathan Woodgate, not least when Chelsea were throwing everything at us in extra time.

Woodgate was named man of the match for his efforts and there would have been 30,000-plus satisfied smiles from the Spurs contingent at Wembley when Ledley lifted the trophy.

"We've worked very carefully in the time he wasn't in the team and this is the type of game that is vitally important he plays in," reflected Juande at Wembley.

"He made a tremendous effort to be able to play in the final and having lost the last time he played in a cup final, this was a new chance for him and one he thoroughly deserved.

"Woodgate and Ledley were magnificent but this was all about a team performance, not individuals.

"We won as a team and it gave us all tremendous satisfaction to win this trophy."
