Summanen: “We have progressed from the last campaign” | Matchday programme exclusive

Sat 27 April 2024, 13:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Eveliina Summanen has embraced Robert Vilahamn’s style of play and reflects on an impressive campaign so far.

The Finland international, who is in her third season with the Club, making the move to N17 in January, 2020, has established herself as a key figure in our team and she has thrived with the attacking football on display throughout this campaign, registering three assists in 21 appearances.

And those excellent performances have resulted in our first-ever win over Arsenal, an historic run in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup as we are set to compete in the final for the first time next month (12 May) and, in the midst of all that, a top four finish is still very much on the cards with just four games left to play in the league.

I have enjoyed the new style of play this campaign, it gives us the opportunity to score plenty of goals and win games.

Speaking in an exclusive interview for the matchday programme ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion, Eveliina looks back on the journey over the last 12 months: “After what happened last season, we had to turn a new page and we changed pretty much everything in-and-around the building, the way we play and, I think, that has helped me as well as an individual.

“I have also got a little bit of experience in this league now after a few seasons and, from what I have learnt in that time, it has helped me a lot and you can see from the team, in every perspective, that we have progressed from the last campaign.

“I have enjoyed the new style of play this campaign, it gives us the opportunity to score plenty of goals and win games.

“If I look at my role in previous seasons, I have been in a more attacking role compared to this season, but, at the same time, I’m still trying to help score and create goals while also doing the defensive work.”
