Jess Naz: “I was happy to get on the scoresheet again”

Mon 22 April 2024, 11:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Jess Naz continued her excellent run of form by netting her second goal in as many matches as we secured a 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday.

The 23-year-old came to the rescue in our 2-1 victory over Leicester City in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup semi-final, scoring the equaliser at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before we went onto win 2-1 in extra time, and she put us ahead at Leigh Sports Village with an excellent finish on her left-foot just after the half hour mark.

Two minutes prior to that, Bethany England grabbed the equaliser to score her second goal in the WSL this season, after Melvine Malard headed United ahead in the opening stages of the game.

Despite a strong defensive display to withstand the hosts’ pressure for the majority of the second half, they grabbed a late leveller through Maya Le Tissier as the points were shared in Manchester.

We can take a lot of steps forward for the next time we play them.

Speaking to SPURSPLAY after the match, Jess praises the impact her team-mates and staff are having on her recent run of form as she netting her sixth goal of the campaign in all competitions.

“I have been working behind-the-scenes little by little, growing in confidence and, I think, the girls have played a big part, alongside the manager, to give me that confidence, so I was happy to get on the scoresheet once again,” she said.

“They are utilising my strengths, whether I play out wide or in the number nine, the balls in behind are always a threat and the team are seeing it and giving it to me, it’s working.”

When asked about the performance, she added: “I think we started off really well, we conceded but the way we were playing, I think, we just stuck to the game plan, composure, and to get the two goals before half time was really good.

“We came out in the second half and we were riding the storm, they threw everything at us and we were able to defend well but, unfortunately, we conceded in the last-minute. However, we can take a lot of steps forward for the next time we play them."
